Demo Team

Demo Team

I played the clarinet in the Saltfleet High school band for George Houslander. Years later I received a call from Mr Houslander who was in charge of the half time shows for the Hamilton Tiger Cat Football Team in the Canadian Football League. He offered us the half time show. There were 22,000 people attending the preseason game and we jumped at the chance. Gord James of CKOC radio, another Saltfleet Alumni, did the commentary and we acted out a show called “The Meeting of the Samarai”.

The plot was simple: two bands of samurai meet and challenge each other to a demonstration of their skills and the bad group uses the other group's samurai to demonstrate on, things get out of hand and they fight to the death. The good guy wins.

The demo became popular and we had a lot of fun doing it. Mike Wran, Franco DeLorenzis, Paul Gillrie, Joe Castellano, and others participated.

Another common part of the demo was bringing honorable guests up.

They would take their shirt off.

Lie between two chairs and place a water melon on their stomach.

The Samurai would come up, put on a blind fold, lift the sword and slice through the water melon without cutting our nervous volunteer. These pictures are of the Right Honorable John Monroe volunteering at a Liberal Party gathering. He was a good sport.

Also,I am sharing some pictures I took in London, Ontario of Bob Dalgliesh and others.

I look forward to your comments on this one.
